City of Vidor City Council General Election


It is municipal election time again in the City of Vidor.

 The City has scheduled a General Election on May 5, 2018 to fill the Wards 2, 3, and 5 seats. Any eligible candidate who is interested in serving on the Vidor City Council in one of those wards may obtain a Candidate Packet from the City Secretary, Vicki Watson, at Vidor City Hall, 1395 North Main St. in Vidor.

Candidate Packets contain an Application for a Place on the Ballot, Texas Ethics Commission’s Form CTA – Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate, as well as other candidate forms and instructions.  (Note:  The Application for a Place on the Ballot must be signed in the presence of a Notary.)

Candidates filing for the General Election must return their completed, signed, and notarize application packet to Ms. Watson at City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm.  The last day to file is Friday, February 16, 2018.

Qualifications for City Council are found in the Vidor City Charter, Section 3.04. - Qualifications of elected officers:

"Each member of the City Council (including the Mayor) shall be a resident of the City of Vidor, shall be a qualified voter of the State of Texas, shall have been such a resident of the City of Vidor for a period of not less than one (1) year immediately preceding his/her election and shall not be indebted to the City of Vidor. If the Mayor or any Councilmember moves from the City or the Ward from which he/she is elected during the term of office for which he/she was elected, or if he/she is convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, he/she shall automatically forfeit his/her office and it shall be deemed vacant. If any Councilmember fails to maintain the foregoing qualifications, or shall be absent from three (3) consecutive regularly scheduled meetings without valid excuse, the City Council, must, at its next regular meeting, declare a vacancy to exist and shall fill the vacancy by appointment until the next regularly scheduled election of the City. The City Council shall be the judge of the election and qualification of its members. Each Councilmember must be a resident of the ward for which he/she files."

Community Spotlight - Mutt & Jeffs

Our Community Spotlight of the Week Award goes to Mutt & Jeff's Restaurant and Catering Service located on 110 South Main Street, Vidor.

Mutt & Jeff's dates back to the 1960's having been a popular spot for generations of Vidor students. (The AIMS Center High School now stands at the restaurant's original location.) Saddened to see the original close, John Houseman opened the new Mutt & Jeff's in 2012 with the goal to provide customers with great food while enjoying a comfortable dining experience. Diners can choose from a menu of steak, spaghetti, salad, burgers, or something more, while enjoying the casual décor that reflects the rich traditions of the Vidor community.
